spannverbund-Girders are composed of a steel beam with a precast, prestressed concrete base for use primarily in bridge and industrial construction, under conditions in which large spans with low construction heights and minimal permissible deformations are to be realized.
Brief description
Supplementing the spannverbund beams with an upper concrete slab creates a so-called double composite beam with a steel-concrete joint in both top and bottom flanges.
Due to prestressing, the concrete base of the double composite beam remains under compression even when the steel bottom flange is already in tension, giving the beam a very high stiffness.
